Preparing for Corporate Worship - 10-21-18

We continue our 'Storms of Life' series, looking at the situation the disciples found themselves in as they encountered Jesus sleeping during a raging storm on the sea.

As we often do we have posted recordings for each song in this upcoming service at our music resource page. Sheet music for select newer songs is now available at the Welcome Center as well.

Call to Worship

We would love it if you made it to church before 9:00 so you can have time to settle and make sure you come in time for this portion of the service. It's a great time to focus our hearts and minds on God's word and the purpose of why we gather.

Songs of Praise and Worship

In The Name of God The Father

We'll be continuing to sing this song off and on until Christmas and then after as well to help cement it in our minds and mouths. I love the prayer in the bridge that covers so much ground:

Open our lips, open our lips
And we shall declare Your praises,
Open our eyes, open our eyes to You.

Open our hearts, open our minds
We're trusting You to save us
Open our lives, let Jesus shine anew.

So many useful declarations for us as we enter into worship!

Let It Be Said of Us

This song was our 'theme song,' so-to-speak, of September's 'Church of God' series. I'd like it also to become a familiar 'rally cry' for us as a congregation, as their are so many good exhortations and encouragements within it. Indeed, "Let the cross be our glory and the Lord be our song - 'til the likeness of Jesus is, through us, made known."

Confession of Sin

While this section of the service may be a difficult thing to encounter every week, it's good and necessary for us to acknowledge why we have so much joy in the mercy of God: because we have so much desperation in our own sinful condition.

Assurance of Pardon

What an absolute joy to hear God's words of pardon and forgiveness proclaimed over us each Sunday!

Song of Proclamation

You Are My King

This song is a wonderful reminder and proclamation of the amazing love and forgiveness given to us in Jesus Christ.

Confession of Faith

This week we will confess The Apostles' Creed together, a reminder and declaration of what we stand on in our faith.

Welcome and Announcements

A good reminder of how we are willingly 'Serving The Living God' in areas in and beyond Living Word.

Tithes and Offerings

This great time of giving back to God a portion of what He's given us continues as an act of worship for us.

Scripture Readings

"Devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching." - 1 Timothy 4:13

Song of Preparation

Be Still My Soul

This beautiful hymn is too-often associated with sadness and funerals. While the melody and harmony do give a somber feel to the piece, the overall content is one of victory and comfort, a text that reminds us that God is sovereign, no matter what. Let this hymn be a prayer of preparation as we get ready to hear the message this week.

Pastor Kirk will spend time in Matthew 8:23-27, where Jesus shows Himself as the one that 'the waves and winds still know' and as "the voice who ruled them while He dwelt below."

May The Grace

This beautiful song of sending reminds us of how our triune God provides and blesses us together as a church body.

This is always a wonderful 'good word' to hear at the end of each service.

Listen to and Learn the Music

Scripture Reading Plan

Dec 19, 2018 - 1 Samuel 9-10

Saul Chosen to Be King

9:1 There was a man of Benjamin whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, son of Zeror, son of Becorath, son of Aphiah, a Benjaminite, a man of wealth. 2 And he had a son whose name was Saul, a handsome young man. There was not a man among the people of Israel more handsome than he. From his shoulders upward he was taller than any of the people.
