Preparing for Corporate Worship - 10-28-18

Written By Ryan Egan on 10/25/2018 | Posted in Congregational LifeCurrent EventsWorship

This week we finish our 'Storms of Life' series, looking at Psalm 46 and seeing how God is our refuge. Read on for a brief explanation of each service element. You can also head to our music resource page to listen to and learn the music for Sunday.

Call to Worship

We will continue to read our October memory verse out loud together, Ephesians 3:20-21.

Songs of Praise and Worship

This week we sing two very familiar and applicable hymns, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God and How Firm A Foundation. A Mighty Fortress was written by Martin Luther as an adaptation of Psalm 46.

Confession of Sin

Each Sunday we are certain to acknowledge that we are sinners and in need of redemption.

Assurance of Pardon

As well, each Sunday we have God's Word of assurance proclaimed over us, that we are forgiven and redeemed.

Song of Proclamation

This Sunday will allow the congregation to just listen to the song "My Dwelling Place," a beautiful rendition of Psalm 91 from Keith and Kristyn Getty.

Confession of Faith

We will proclaim the entirety of Psalm 46 together this week as a way to reinforce its message and to prepare our hearts for the sermon.

Welcome and Announcements

Always a great time to see how God is moving in and around the congregation.

Tithes and Offerings

We worship together by returning a portion of what God has given us. It will be great to explore this a little more next month as we take a look at God's bountiful provision when looking at 2 Corinthians 9.

Scripture Readings

Let the truths of these readings take deep root in you as you listen to and read them this Sunday. This week's readings are Psalm 91:9-16 and John 6:60-69.

Message

Pastor Kirk will be taking a look at Psalm 46, at what it means that God is, indeed, our great refuge.

Sending

We will be singing The Solid Rock as an exclamation point to end our series, reminding ourselves that indeed, "On Christ, the Solid Rock" we stand and that "all other ground is sinking sand."

We end the service with The Lord's Prayer and the Benediction, or 'good word' to send us on into the next week.

Saul Chosen to Be King

9:1 There was a man of Benjamin whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, son of Zeror, son of Becorath, son of Aphiah, a Benjaminite, a man of wealth. 2 And he had a son whose name was Saul, a handsome young man. There was not a man among the people of Israel more handsome than he. From his shoulders upward he was taller than any of the people.
