Preparing for Corporate Worship - 11-4-18

Written By Ryan Egan on 11/01/2018 | Posted in Congregational LifeCurrent EventsWorship

This Sunday begins a new series where we take a look at various aspects of God's character for which we can be thankful. The series will center around various portions of 2 Corinthians. I'm so glad we can spend an entire month in an attitude of thanksgiving instead of just one fleeting day!

We have again posted the music for this week's service if you would like to listen to and learn it before Sunday. As well, limited sheet music for select songs are available at the Welcome Center on Sunday morning.

Call to Worship

Oh Shout for Joy (New Hundredth)

We will be learning a new song together this month that will be sure to get your toes tapping! This great rendition of Psalm 100 is a fresh take on the call to "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise."

Songs of Praise and Worship

We will be singing two songs we've sung throughout this fall at Living Word. The first, "In The Name of God The Father" remains a fantastic declaration of why we gather to worship. The second, "Let It Be Said Of Us" has become a bit of an anthem to help us cement the idea of being "centered on the cross." This week we will have a particular focus on verse two as we realize its summary of the latter part of Colossians 3 and the call to live in peace with each other as well as to show forgiveness and reconciliation as God has shown these things to us.

Confession of Sin and Assurance of Salvation

Each week we confess our sin and each week we have Scripture proclaimed over us that assures us that we are forgiven.

Greeting and Announcements

It's so good to see how so many are joyfully "proclaiming the Living Word" and willingly "serving the Living God" inside and outside of the church walls.

Confession of Faith - Confirmation Testimonies

This week we have the unique privilege of hearing testimonies of faith from two students who will be confirmed. We're looking forward to this special time in the service!

Tithes and Offerings

This portion of the service is an act of worship in itself as we return to God a portion of what He has given us. We will also be blessed to hear special music from two young violinists who are playing on the music team as well.

Prayer

It's good to bring requests and petitions before the Lord. Pray along with Pastor Kirk as we prays for needs within the congregation.

Scripture Readings

This week's readings are Isaiah 12:1-6 and Romans 5:6-11. Feel free to read them early as you prepare your heart and mind for the public reading of these passages.

Message

Pastor Kirk will take a look at how we can be thankful for God's forgiveness and reconciliation as well as how we can show these things to others as God has shown them to us.

The Lord's Supper

It is always a special time to be able to come to the Lord's table together. This week is especially significant for the confirmands as they are able to receive communion for the first time.

Benediction

We are always sent with a 'good word' as we head into the rest of the day and a new week.

Scripture Reading Plan

Dec 19, 2018 - 1 Samuel 9-10

Saul Chosen to Be King

9:1 There was a man of Benjamin whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, son of Zeror, son of Becorath, son of Aphiah, a Benjaminite, a man of wealth. 2 And he had a son whose name was Saul, a handsome young man. There was not a man among the people of Israel more handsome than he. From his shoulders upward he was taller than any of the people.

3 Now the donkeys of…
