Preparing for Corporate Worship - Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Written By Ryan Egan on 11/06/2014 | Posted in Congregational LifeWorship

This week we will be saying "Thanks Be To Our God" for His fatherhood. We will celebrate God as our faithful father, full of love and compassion toward His children.

David's Call To Praise

Our call to worship this Sunday comes from Psalm 57. David was on the run, fearing from his life, and hiding from Saul in a cave. The first half of the psalm shows David confessing his trust in God in the midst of great danger. He acknowledges that his "soul is in the midst of lions" and that he lies down "amid fiery beasts." David had every reason to question the presence of God in that moment. But instead, he writes these words, which we will use to call our hearts to worship together:

My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody!
Awake, my glory! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn!
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations.
For your steadfast love is great to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!

Instead of despair, David gives praise, honor and worship to God! God's "steadfast love is great to the heavens" and we can trust Him in any situation. The Creator of the universe, the one who shaped the mountains and numbers the stars is faithful to us! And the greatness of His love and faithfulness is as great as the wonder of the heavens above. If God's creation is so breathtaking, how much more His great love for us?

Our Faithful Father and Our Abundant Provider

Perhaps you are facing despair today. Likely you are not on the run and fearing for your life, but maybe you are despairing for other reasons. Be assured that God is faithful and His provisions abundant!

This week we will be singing songs confessing God as our father, our provider, and the one whose love will never abandon, forsake or leave us. Listen to and learn the music for this Sunday's worship service at
