Preparing for Corporate Worship - Sunday School Kickoff 2019

Written By Ryan Egan on 09/04/2019 | Posted in Congregational LifeCurrent EventsWorship

We are excited to kick off a new year of Sunday School and Christian Education at Living Word this coming Sunday, September 8, 2019!

We continue our series "The Perfect Wisdom of our God" with a look at Ecclesiastes. We'll see how living within the framework of God's wisdom gives purpose and meaning to our lives. And what a more fitting topic than resuming corporate time in God's word than the wisdom we gain from doing so! Take a look below to see elements of the service we will be enjoying together this week:

Call to Worship

Come early so you're able to quiet your mind and heart and hear God's word call us together into His house and presence.

Songs of Celebration

This week we will sing the triumphant and comforting words of "Jesus Shall Reign" with a simple additional chorus written by Keith and Kristyn Getty and Ed Cash. I love when a new chorus captures the essence of the hymn and gives just what is needed to solidify truths we've been singing into a cohesive picture.

To our King be highest praise rising through eternal days.
Just and faithful, He shall reign: Jesus shall reign.

We will also continue to sing the wonderful new modern hymn "Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me" during our opening song set and as a response to God's words of assurance and forgiveness over us later in the service.

Confession of Sin

It is good for us to acknowledge this every week, as we must remember why we are in need of God's saving grace in the first place.

Assurance of Pardon

To that end, though, we do not linger on our sin, but acknowledge it and then proclaim the victory that God has forgiven, redeemed and change us! I love these words from "Yet Not I..." that call for bold and loud singing in response to hearing God's grace:

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven, the future sure, the price, it has been paid.
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon, and he was raised to overthrow the grave.
To this I hold: my sin has been defeated. Jesus now, and ever, is my plea.
Oh the chains are released, I can sing: I am free!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Confession of Faith

This week we confess our faith together through Scripture as well as through the installation of Sunday School teachers (as they show an example of faith to all they teach) and the distribution of Bibles to young students (as we long to instill a love and learning of God's word in their lives).

Celebrating What God is Doing In and Around Us

We used to call this section of the service 'greeting and announcements.' That didn't fit the idea of what we'd like this time in the service to bring: a call to see God's work and hand in our congregational community, both within the walls of the church and outside of them as people serve in our local community and further.

Tithes and Offerings

We view this as an act of worship as we give back a portion of what God has blessed us with so richly.

Prayer

Pray along with Pastor Kirk as he spends time praying for people and issues in and outside of Living Word.

Scripture and Message

We place high value on God's 'living and active word' and want to make sure this time of the service is crucial. Bring your bibles and follow along as we dive into where the wisdom of God comes from.

Sending

We respond to God's word in song as well as receiving a 'good word' or benediction from Pastor Kirk as we are sent into the next week. We're so glad to be able to spend time receiving from God, responding to Him, and encouraging each other as a family of believers.

Listen to and Learn the Music

If you'd like to listen to and learn the music for Sunday as well as use it in family devotion times please head to our music resource page.
