The book of Lamentations is filled with poems of lament and sorrow, which may seem silly in an era where pastors focus on and emphasize joy and prosperity, psychologists emphasize guilt free living, and politicians spin out cheery sound bites. This is why Jeremiah’s words have so much to offer; they honestly speak of the crushing weight of human sin and guilt.

In the midst of sadness and tears, Jeremiah offers a profound statement of faith. This faith is not centered on Jeremiah or any other man, but upon God's faithfulness and forgiveness. Therefore we have hope; for God's mercies, love and forgiveness are new for believer each day.
