Our sermon text is found in Matthew 26:69-75 as we continue to look at the life of Peter. Peter was bold and outspoken in his love and devotion to Christ, but he had a hard time in always following through in what he professed. Perhaps you can relate with Peter in being unable to always practice what you preach. "Peter's failure teaches us that mere bravado cannot keep us from sinning" (The Lutheran Study Bible study note).

Perhaps a better way to look at Peter's embarrassing behavior is not "how do I avoid that" but rather how do I respond when I inevitably do the same thing? Each of us has a sinful human nature that we continue to struggle with. Even in Peter's failing, Christ continues to be gracious and merciful to those who humbly repent.

Serving Christ alongside you,
Pastor Kirk Thorson
