As students have returned to school these past two weeks, September seemed a fitting month for us to seek Godly wisdom through the book of Ecclesiastes. This book was written by King Solomon who pursued power and pleasure, had unimaginable wealth and yet saw how all of this only led to emptiness. "Vanity of vanities," he repeatedly cries out. Solomon realized that all of his fame and accomplishments mattered very little in the grand scheme of life.

Our sermon text today is found in Ecclesiastes 2:18-26 in which we read of Solomon's struggle in viewing his work. He wonders aloud what he has to show for all of his work and accomplishments. Another day, another project. Even the sun seems to be caught in the same tedious work day after day. What answers did Solomon find, and how can we find joy and satisfaction in our work and labor?

Serving Christ alongside you,
Pastor Kirk Thorson
